Miguel Flores was a busy man late in 2015. He didn’t take on his first opponent until May, but he crammed in four fights in six months to round out the year, and he’s not letting that momentum slide in 2016.

Miguel Flores (18-0, 9 KOs) is kicking off the new year with a trip to the ring against Mexico’s Mario Briones (27-4-2, 20 KOs) in a scheduled 10 rounds of 126-pound action on FS1’s Toe-to-Toe Tuesdays on January 12 from Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio (11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT).

"It's an amazing feeling to be in this main event and it has motivated even more than ever to have this opportunity," Flores said. "I am always in shape and ready to get into the ring."

Flores, 23, capped off an impressive 2015 with a second-round knockout of Alfred Tetteh in Austin, Texas, on November 10. It was his second straight stoppage after shutting down Carlos Padilla in the fourth round in September. He also won unanimous decisions over Juan Ruiz and German Meraz this year.

Briones, 29, ended a year-long layoff in November with a third-round TKO of Edgar Gonzalez in his hometown of Aguascalientes, Mexico. January's fight will mark his United States debut, although he’s competed in South Africa, Panama, France and the Philippines in his career.

"I am thankful for this opportunity and I hope that my opponent is taking me very seriously," Briones said. "This is going to be the hardest fight he's ever been in.”

Flores will be fighting close to home. Although he was born in Mexico, he grew up in Houston and has had 16 of his 18 pro fights in the Lone Star State. It’s worked for him so far, as he’s kept his unbeaten mark intact. On January 12, he’ll look to keep the streak alive.
