There was Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr., Adrien “About Billions” Broner and, keeping the currency theme going, Shawn Porter’s Ben Franklin-adorned, $100 bill boxers.
All three were in the house at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Friday for the weigh-in prior to Porter and Broner’s showdown Saturday night.
Shawn Porter came in right at the catchweight of 144 pounds, while Adrien Broner was 143.5 pounds.
Porter had the edge in crowd support, garnering scattered shouts of “Team Porter!,” “Cleveland!” and “Showtime!” from the fans in the stands.
With the Cavaliers getting bounced from the NBA Finals on Tuesday, Porter is giving Clevelanders something to cheer for.
Porter was decidedly less warmly received by Broner, who refused to shake hands with his opponent after posing for the obligatory face-off photo, slapping Mayweather’s hand away when he tried to get Broner to be a good sport.
Less contentious was the weigh-in for the co-main event, where Errol Spence Jr. was 149 pounds and Phil Lo Greco, who replaced original opponent Roberto Garcia on Thursday, was 152. The fight was originally to be contested at 147 pounds, but the weight was adjusted due to the late substitution.
Both fights will air on NBC beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.
